Lives and works in New York, NY
Born in Brooklyn in 1994, New York based artist Lina McGinn earned her BFA from the Cooper Union in 2016. McGinn has recently participated in numerous shows in New York, as well as a solo exhibition in the Netherlands. On top of showing her own work she has also undertaken curatorial projects both while attending the Cooper Union and subsequently in Brooklyn and North Carolina. McGinn is known for abstract human scale sculptures that provoke questions of form and purpose. Much of her recent work consists of dramatically colored amorphous mounds of Polystyrene, reminiscent of the tactile popcorn ceilings born of the same material. In some cases appearing comfortably static, in others almost figurative, McGinn’s sculptures toe a line between familiarly organic and completely alien, forcing consideration of exactly what separates the two.
